Nonviolence

The United Nations has declared 2001-2010 to be the International decade for a culture of peace and nonviolence for the children of the world. The same decade is declared to be the Decade to Overcome Violence by the World Council of Churces. During this period, SweFOR wants to increase our efforts to spread the ideas of nonviolence to members and the public. Please contact our secretary of nonviolence, Kerstin Bergea, if you have thougths or questions about nonviolence.
The following projects are currently running:
Noviolence training
We organise trainings for schools, congregations and organisations. By mixing lectures with interactive methods such as roleplay, we wish to increase the understanding of what violence and nonviolence are, and how nonviolence can be used to bring about peace and justice.
Parishes For Peace
SweFOR, together with the Council of Churches in Sweden, wish to inspire and support parishes who want to include nonviolence and conflict transformation in their activities. Right now we offer seminars on these topics. For more information about Parishes For Peace, talk to our information officer, Marija Fischer Odén.
Martin Luther King Day
The third Monday every January is Martin Luther King Day, which is celebrated in more than 100 countries. SweFOR has, together with the Swedish Baptist Church, begun to observe this special day in Sweden, too. In the past years many congregations and organisations have observed Martin Luther King Day. Please visit http://www.martinlutherking.se/ for more information.
Co-operation with the Muslim Youth of Sweden
The message of peace is strong in the world religions. In co-operation with the Muslim Youth of Sweden, we want to uphold the tradition of nonviolence in both Christianity and Islam, and to be inspired and learn from each other's religions. We also want to develop new ways of co-operating on bringing forward peace and nonviolence.
